Buying brands without being branded

Growing up and growing older, my feelings about many topics in society have evolved and continue to do so.  One thing I've always felt strongly about however, is not letting my body be a billboard for a multi-million dollar corporation.  I've never understood the point of paying for clothes, that are blanketed with the name of a company.  Shouldn't those companies be paying you to wear their clothes?

Every single day on campus I see girls and guys acting as walking billboards for clothing companies.

mass consumption

Don't let yourself be a billboard, let the design of clothing speak for itself.  Speak with your wallet, purchase clothes from brands that deserve your money because what they sell is responsibly made and of the highest quality.  Supporting those deserving brands not only creates a stronger connection to your own consumer habits, but buying high quality long lasting items with timeless style will ultimately save you money.  Constantly re-buying the same t shirt once it wears out or looses shape is much more costly than finding one that is made to last.  Ultimately, when you feel proud of where you consume, and about the items you purchase you are more compelled to tell others about the items, whereas I've never been told OMG you HAVE to buy these PINK sweatpants!  They've lasted me 10 YEARS!

  2. Agreed. I often refuse to by clothes solely because they have some obnoxious logo slapped on them. Here in GA the worst offender seems to be the North Face black jacket (paired with insert-brand-here running shorts). It's like a freaking college uniform or something. Too bad too, cause I actually like that jacket.
