These are a few of my favorite things...

So, I love Christmas.  I'm sure every other blog you read does too, but I'm pretty sure they didn't make Lego Star Wars mason jar snow globes, so if you like Christmas and awesome then you're in the right place.

Home is where the dogs are

This weekend Tre spent Saturday with his mom, and I spent my day at home.  After breakfast I drove down to Stow to get some soil from my favorite garden center/vegetable stand, Applefield Farm.  I also got a little excited by their herbs, and added 4 new ones to the family on my kitchen shelf: Purple Sage, Curry, Greek Oregano and Blooming Chives.  Once I got home I finally planted my potato seeds into the last of the coffee sacks. (Sidenote A: a few months ago Tre's friend who is a coffee roaster shipped me a box of about a dozen coffee sacks, which I used in re-decorating my living room, and then on Saturday I used the last 2 for potatoes.  I was pretty proud of myself for using most of pretty much all of them, and the rest I will shred and add to my compost pile.) (Sidenote B: my poor potato seeds have been sitting in a tray in the sun for about 10 days drying out.  For non-gardeners, potato seeds are just little potatoes with a bunch of eyes on them, so when you get them you cut them so each piece has 1-2 eyes and then you have to let them sit in the sun to get a thick calloused skin so they don't rot in the soil.  Normally, you let them sit for 1-2 days, but I have been so busy with school that mine sat out for well over a week, so cross your fingers that it doesn't screw up my plants!)  Anyways, after I finished that I figured I'd snap some pictures around the yard, and I wanted to finally show everyone the update to my living room and kitchen.  Now, to you reading this it's not much of an update, because you didn't see my house before, so its more of a welcome-to-my-home post.

Now that these have spouted, they grow a few inches every day.  Can't wait for noms

Quiet means busy

For those who don't know me IRL - I work with kids, and anyone who spends a lot of time with children knows that when they're quiet that means they're up to something.  The same can be said about me.. and blogging.

It all started with this problem I have, which is that everywhere I go I want to buy everything I like!  Tre and I go to antiques and thrift stores almost every weekend, and I am often overwhelmed by the amount of cool stuff I find.  The hard part comes in justifying those purchases, through reasoning their usefulness or necessity.  Therefore I decided to focus on one room of my house at a time, and to break down the problems and proposed solutions in order to focus my purchases into practical expenditures.  When you walk into my house (through the back door.. I don't know a single person who uses their front door..) my kitchen is the first room you enter (after you ignore the gross mudroom/entry way that you really walk into) So I started there, with my kitchen, and I will move through into my living room, "spare room", bedroom and bathroom.

One thing to know about me, is that once I get an idea in my head I do everything in my power to make it happen.  I also have a hard time starting a project and not finishing it.  This meant I shlepped out to Ikea, spent $100 at Home Depot, and deconstructed my kitchen and applied one coat of paint in the same day that I also had a pap smear (yum!) and worked.  Friday night I slept for about 4.5 hours and sprung right up to get back to it.  By Saturday evening My walls, baseboards, and window frames had two fresh coats of paint.  I didn't stop there though! I'm not going to do a big update just yet with photos of the finished product.  I'm still waiting on the finishing touch, window shelves (for growing fresh herbs, yum yum) to get installed.  This was all just a teaser/drawn out (tldr..) excuse for not blogging.

ANYWAYS...

In addition to painting like a maniac I also made it out to a few thrift shops this weekend.  I got six new things that will (hopefully) but up in the shop by Sunday... at the latest.  The weather isn't looking so great so I have to wait to take photos.
