My dad had his (traiditional) appointment at the Harmony Barbershop to get his vacation hair cut, so while he did that I fooled around a bit with my camera.
After he was all set, we made our way down Main Street, USA. We quickly realized it was hot, and very very busy. I often scoff at those who think they can mosey into the park after 12 pm and casually hop onto Splash Mountain - so in true hypocritical fashion we headed for Frontierland. We snagged a fast pass, and headed for the Hall of Presidents for some AC and education. I always enjoyed this attraction, but the caliber of the show has increased much more since the refurb. From there we decided to take a ride on the Peoplemover, see the Carousel of Progress, and then we got an early dinner at Columbia Harbor House.
We sat up on the bridge between lands, and I had a lighthouse sandwich while my dad had fish and chips. It was great and quiet and cooooool, so we stayed up there for a bit relaxing since we had been up since about 5 am, and knew we were staying until the parked closed at midnight!
Finally, after dinner we made our way to our Magic Kingdom tradition - to sit atop Main St station, get a special Magic Kingdom snack - and wait for the Main St Electrical Parade, and then to watch Wishes!
Now, apparently I am not the first ever to think of this idea, so each year there are other die-hards up there earlier and earlier. By the time we got there on this trip, there were no more chairs left, but we still had a good spot. Shortly after arriving, a family left and offered my dad their one chair, so I decided to head down to see if there was a better spot at Casey's or by the Plaza Restaurant. There was not, so I softened the blow of floor sitting by stopping at the confectionary for some brownies and cotton candy.
We sat politely, and people acted mostly politely until the parade started, at which point it was if I had a flashing red sign saying "I hate personal space! stand next to me!" because a mother and father had twin ~5 year old girls, who they encouraged to push forward and stand in front of me. Now, I would have no problem with this, if they had just asked, because really, who is going to say "no adorable little girls you cannot stand in front of me, which in no way blocks my view, and watch the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom" but the fact that they encouraged them, in clear earshot of me, to cut in front of me really rubbed me wrong. In addition to that, they were stepping all over my cotton candy and I was wishing I had some gum to stick in that lady's hair.
It only got worse, as the Magic, Memories and You show started, as these two european girls started shaking the back of my dads chair. Like, hands gripped on it shaking it back and forth - so as soon as the fireworks started, he stood up and these two girls got up and stood on his chair! right behind him! blocking the view of everyone around them. So, already being annoyed and unable to pretend to not know what they were blabbering about in German, I told them they were very rude.
My dad and I seem to be a magnet for stupid, and while I stopped my prodding at verbal expression he decided to step it up - literally. He put is foot on the edge of their chair and shook it back and fourth until they stumbled off. Now, I don't at all condone this and I have since told him that was a bad move, but at the time I had NO IDEA he was doing it, so when they stepped down I attempted to take the chair back. At the same moment, that my hand is on the seat of the chair, one of the girls sits on my hand! and crosses her arms! and laughs! which, in reality is fine - if she wants to sit while everyone stands blocking her view of the fireworks good for her! but in the heat of the moment, the ounce southern hospitatlity that I had absorbed since arriving in Florida dissipated instantaneously and profantities were flying. My dad at one point called this girl Eurotrash - which I found hilarious but also unacceptable. I stuck to rude p.o.s.
After the climax of the situatoin, I turned to her friend and simply asked "why are you so rude? I don't understand why you are doing this" and after a quick and relatively calm exchange she made her rude p.o.s. friend give us the chair back. American wins again, freedom is safe!

I'm so jealous of your trip and I'm glad you stood up to the brats!
